Last week, we suddenly get a call from the school asking to meet with us, initially we thought that it was related to Conner’s in school behaviour issues but instead it was related to calls the school has received from the multiple people and service providers we have working for Conner. It seems that people with more power has made the school sit up and take notice, something we couldn’t manage on our own!
We are hoping that now we can get an behavioural plan in place, which hopefully will help Conner with his educational and behavioural needs; academically our son is on or above par right now but should his behaviour continue, his education will suffer, he has already learned that bad behavior gets him out of his schoolwork and has been on yellow or red cards at least twice a week because of his acting up!
Our hope is to be able to get experts in to observe Conner in school, we have people waiting in the wings to go into the school, but the school has to give permission before they can go into school. This is one of the things we are hoping to resolve next week when we meet with the school. We have asked our advocate to also attend so the school doesn’t give us the runaround, like has happened previously!
All we want like any parent is to get the best education possible for our child; but the school system is being very difficult to work with, avoiding our requests and not giving us straight answers, we have be finding our more and more through external service providers and advocates. We are not willing to just let this go, we firmly believe our son deserves an appropriate education like everyone else, not every child can be pigeonholed and categorised, Conner needs more direction than most!
